Blog Entry #5

Today at lunch, Ben, Julio, Destiny and I discussed our school’s gang problems in private. We decided to capture them by having Julio and I draw attention to ourselves. We started kissing and making out in public. Ben and Destiny were watching nearby in a car. But their car broke down and they couldn’t see us anymore. Then, Julio and I got kidnapped by the Devildogs.


When we woke up, we were in the middle of the bottom of the boat in London Woods Lake. Lightning struck us and we got separated. I fell in and I couldn’t swim. This had reminded me so much of the dreams Destiny and I had. When I woke up, Julio was giving me CPR and praying in Spanish, hoping I would live. Now that I think about it, my dream had someone talking to me. The voice was muffled and I couldn’t understand anything. Fortunately, Julio saves me and takes us to a nearby hospital. Our parents come to visit us and they were pretty mad at the trouble we were in. It was understandable. What Julio and I didn’t know was that we ended up on the news! It was sorta cool, I guess. Ms. Norris, that news anchor from who works with my dad, offered to ask me and Julio questions. Of course I said yes! Maybe it will get rid of those gangs around my school and finally make it a safe place.

Blog Entry #1 The first day going back to school was crazy. There was that fight in the hallway and there was blood everywhere! It was between Ben Olsen and the new kid, whoever that was. Everyone says the new kid started it. I wonder why. Then I got my classes for the semester and they’re all messed up. I have to go to the counselor to get them changed, like I do every semester. Blog Entry #3 It’s getting to a point where Julio and I can no longer talk in school, since al the gang members are watching us like hawks now. We get to talk online only, and I feel like even there, people are watching us. It’s sad really. People are worried that in our relationship, we aren’t the same color. So? Who cares? Even Julio’s dad doesn’t like the sound of us being together. Apparently, he’s had his experiences with other gang members who were black. While I am sorry for his loss, it’s not fair to limit Julio from someone because of your experiences from the past. Malaka from The Family came to tell me that if I keep seeing Julio, I wouldn’t be protected by them anymore. When I asked why, she didn’t want to tell me the reason but I know why. Something similar happened to Julio with the Devildogs, where they cornered him in a gas station and called him so many names and insults. Blog Entry #2 So I’ve found out that spanishlover is Julio. You know, the guy I was talking to online. Julio/spanishlover goes to my school. I knew he wouldn’t try to hurt me! Julio is still he same charming person he was online: gentle, sweet and intelligent. I think I might like him. The only problem is that a lot of people don’t want to see us together. It’s mainly the gangs, like the Devildogs and the family. I think it’s dumb. The gangs are mad because I am black and Julio is Hispanic. That’s just crazy. I thought anti-interracial love only happened in the 50s, not present time. This makes Julio hate Cincinnati even more. He came from Texas, where it’s warm and all of his friends are at. I know he misses them a lot because he talks about them and living in Texas quite a lot. I wonder what it would be like to visit some place where it’s hot all the time there, it’s cold.
